Message from the Board Chairperson
Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the website of the Georgia Composite Medical Board. Our Board is responsible for licensing, regulation and discipline of physicians, resident physicians, physician volunteers in medicine, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, perfusionists, orthotists & prosthetists, acupuncturists, and auricular detoxification specialists. The Board is composed of fifteen volunteers appointed by the Governor. The volunteer Board members are made up of thirteen practicing physicians and two consumer members who have no connection whatsoever to the practice of medicine. The Board members are assisted in their work by the executive director who manages Board staff and investigators. While the Board is independent, we are attached to the Department of Community Health for administrative purposes.
The Board’s mission is to protect the health of Georgia’s citizens by proper licensing of health care professionals and by enforcement of Georgia law. Our Board reviews all complaints about our licensees. These complaints may come from a patient, consumers, hospitals, government agencies, healthcare practitioner, or by the Board’s review of malpractice settlements and awards. After these complaint cases are reviewed by a Board member or committee, the case is brought before the full Board. At this point Board action may range from closure of the case to revocation of the practitioner’s license.
Whether you are a consumer or professional, I encourage you to explore our website as this site contains a great deal of useful information. If the reader has any questions concerns or suggestions please contact the Board at the above address.
